Prepare to Apply for Jobs Online
When applying for jobs online it is best to prepare
the information that you are going to need ahead of time. This will
enable you to complete applications efficiently. If you don't take the
time to prepare beforehand, it's going to take you much longer to
apply for jobs than it would otherwise.
If you have followed our guide up to this point, you already have your
resume and cover letter ready. Now you need to collect and organize
the information that's required for job applications.
If you have Excel, we recommend using it for this purpose, and have
included an Excel workbook that you can download and use if you like
(see link below). If you do not have Excel there are free alternatives
available online from sites like OpenOffice.org and Google (just do a
search for "Google Docs").
Required information is listed below.
Residences - A list of the addresses you have lived at during
the past 5 years at least, including the address, city, state and zip
code. If you rented at this address, you should also include the
landlord's name, address, city, state, zip code and phone number.
Employment - A list of jobs you've had during the past 10
years. Unlike a resume, on a job application you must list all jobs
you've held during the specified timeframe. You must also account for
any time you were unemployed. Failure to do so may result in a failed
background check and being permanently disqualified to work for that
employer. For each job include your current or former employer's name,
address, city, state, zip code and phone, dates of employment,
position held, responsibilities, supervisor name and title, reason for
leaving, starting and ending wages.
Education - Beginning with high school, a list of the schools
you have attended. Include the school name, city and state, attendance
dates, whether or not you graduated, and grade point average (GPA).
Business References - It's ok to use the same references you
used for your resume. In both cases you should include business
references, not personal references. Employers that check references
want to speak to a former employer, not your best friend. You should
provide three references. Include a contact name, occupation, job
title and phone number for each.
Once you have collected and organized the information required to
complete job applications, you are ready to begin researching and
applying for jobs. On this site we provide both current job listings and a directory of virtual
call centers that hire home-based agents on an ongoing basis, including company profiles
and links to apply online. You can access these resources from the
links provided at the conclusion of this guide, and from the home page of
this site.
